1966 Tree Planting Ceremony

If you see the beauty in trees, you will appreciate these two shots I have selected for this week’s Throwback Thursday.

The first photo was taken in 1966, at the main entrance of the Gothard Street parking lot. There was a ceremony for the planting of three Australian Fig Trees in the median. Look closely and you will see a cheerleader beside the first tree and in the top left of the photo, the Bolsa Avenue Bridge.

The second photo was taken in 2006, forty years later in the same location. The Australian Fig trees are now quite magnificent. Look into the background and to the left is, the Del Taco drive thru and to the right, is Mamma Rosa’s Restaurant. Both eateries were popular with students and campus personnel. Many birthdays and ad-hoc meetings were held at Mamma Rosa’s over the years.
