The Renaissance Faire represented a superb collaboration of Golden West College and local communities and community organizations. The City of Huntington Beach started the original Community Festival in 1969 and was held downtown in Huntington beach as a city-wide event. Golden West College offered its large quad area in 1979, the Community Festival expanded to include non-profit organizations from the surrounding communities. When the festival moved to the campus, there were as many as30,000 visitors over a weekend. In the late 1980’s the festival became the Renaissance Faire and the number of non-profit groups participating in the Faire grew to over ninety.
In the last few years of the event, the City of Huntington Beach reduced much of its financial support, which meant GWC had to provide more financial support. Sadly, the last Renaissance Faire was held in 1991. THINGS REMEMBERED. Enjoy the photos included here.
